Sadiah Qureshi is a Professor and Chair in Modern British History at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on race, science, and empire, exploring how racialized knowledge systems shape contemporary issues like anti-racism and conservation. She holds fellowships from the Royal Historical Society, Royal Anthropological Institute, and Linnean Society.
Qureshi studied natural sciences at the University of Cambridge before specializing in the history and philosophy of science. Her landmark book Peoples on Parade (2011) examines 19th-century human exhibitions, while her upcoming Vanished (2025) links extinction narratives to imperial violence. She advises major institutions like the Horniman Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
Teaching includes modules on Black/South Asian British histories and extinction studies. Awards include the Philip Leverhulme Prize (2012) and British Academy Fellowship (2020). Her public engagement spans BBC documentaries, podcasts, and policy work, including co-chairing the Royal Historical Society’s Race, Ethnicity & Equality Working Group.
