Dr. Sacha Darke is a Reader in Criminology at the School of Social Sciences, University of Westminster. He holds external roles as Visiting Lecturer in Law at the University of São Paulo and Visiting Lecturer in Anthropology at the State University of Maranhão. His academic career includes Senior Lecturer (2007-2021) and previous roles at the University of Portsmouth and University of Westminster. He earned a Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Westminster (2006), alongside M.A. and LL.B. degrees from the University of Southampton.
His research focuses on Latin American prisons, prison education, and convict criminology. He co-authored the 2023 John Irwin Distinguished Scholar Award-winning work, and led the REF2021 Impact Case Study on participatory prison education. Current research explores community prisons in Brazil.
Teaching responsibilities include leading the MA Global Criminology program and coordinating collaborative convict criminology initiatives with Dr. Andreas Aresti. He co-edits journal special editions on prison dynamics and global criminology trends.
