Sabrina Norlander Eliasson is a Full Professor of Art History at Stockholm University's Department of Culture and Aesthetics. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Uppsala University (2003). Her research focuses on early modern painting, socio-economic dimensions of art history, and 18th-century Roman cultural contexts, with a particular emphasis on monastic culture, collecting practices, and gender dynamics. She has led major projects, including a study of Nationalmuseum's Italian paintings collection and the 'Topos and Topography' research initiative on guidebooks in Rome.
Her work bridges art history with interdisciplinary approaches, such as technical art history and cultural transfer studies. She co-founded the International Master Program in Technical Art History and the Art Museum, emphasizing curatorial practice and exhibition production. Notable publications include Portraiture and Social Identity in Eighteenth-Century Rome (2009) and contributions to journals like Art History and Studi di Storia dell’Arte.
She collaborates with institutions like Nationalmuseum (Stockholm) and Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica (Rome), and serves on boards such as the Swedish Institute for Classical Studies in Rome. Her recent research includes a book project on Baroque Rome’s monastic spaces and the 'MoCMa' network on artistic techniques.
