Sabrina Coninx is an Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Philosophy of the Sciences. Her research focuses on the philosophy of mind, science, medicine, and movement sciences, with a special emphasis on chronic pain, emotions, and niche construction. She holds a PhD from Ruhr University Bochum (2019), a Master's from Universität Bonn, and a Bachelor's in Philosophy & Psychology from Universität Bonn.
Her current projects include 'Suffering in Chronic Pain' and 'Technological Niche Disruption.' Research areas explore interdisciplinary frameworks like the enactive approach, pluralism in pain linguistics, and the dynamics of affordances. She actively contributes to academic discourse through editorial roles (e.g., Philosophy and the Mind Sciences) and lectures on neurophilosophy, psychiatry, and ethics.
Her work critiques reductionist models in medicine, advocating for embodied and situated perspectives. Recent publications address pain philosophy's challenges, niche construction's societal impacts, and pluralistic strategies in understanding pain experiences.
