Prof. Dr. Alfred Newen is a Professor of Philosophy at Ruhr-Universität Bochum since 2007 (W3 since 2010), specializing in philosophy of mind and cognition. He leads the Research Training Group 'Situated Cognition' (DFG-funded) and the Center for Mind and Cognition. His research focuses on embodied cognition, consciousness studies, animal cognition, and emotion attribution. He has held visiting positions at Oxford, Berkeley, and UC San Francisco. Notable awards include the Bennigsen-Förderpreis and the Psychiatry Philosophy Prize.
