Sabri Can Sannav is an Associate Professor at Trakya University's Faculty of Education, Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education. Appointed as a faculty member in 2004 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2023, he concurrently serves as Head of the Department of Atatürk Principles and Revolution History since 2016, Deputy Director of the Balkan Research Institute since November 2024, and Director of the Balkan Research Institute since December 2024. His academic leadership extends to previous roles as Faculty Deputy Dean (2015-2021) and Head of the Balkan Studies Department (2018-2022).
His research focuses on Balkan history with particular emphasis on Ottoman-era islands (Limni, Sakız, Prizren), 19th-century Balkan nationalism, educational institutions, and archival analysis of demographic/economic conditions. His methodology combines
- Primary source analysis from Ottoman archives
- Comparative Balkan studies
- Longitudinal historical analysis (1800-1923)
Publication trends reveal three dominant research trajectories:
- Military-diplomatic history (Crimean War impacts, 1897 Greco-Turkish War)
- Educational archaeology (Prizren schools, Edirne pedagogy)
- Island-specific socioeconomics (Limni endowments, Sakız earthquake reconstruction)
Academic leadership includes directing the Balkan Research Institute and serving on editorial boards for publications like Trakya University Journal of Literature. His institutional impact is amplified through organizing international symposia on Balkan history and Turkish cultural geography, particularly the annual International Balkan Education and Science Congress held in Bulgaria.
