Prof. Dr. Sabine Trepte is a full professor of Media Psychology at the University of Hohenheim since 2013, previously holding positions at the Hamburg Media School (2006-2012) and the University of Hamburg. She earned her doctorate from Hannover University in 2001 and conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on privacy dynamics in social media, political media literacy, and social identity processes. She has served as Co-Editor for Media Psychology and Associate Editor for Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, and currently sits on editorial boards of leading journals.
Key research areas include privacy self-disclosure, online microtargeting, and the psychological impacts of digital communication. Awards include the ICA Best Paper and Dissertation Awards. Her work has been featured in outlets like New York Times, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Deutsche Welle. Current projects examine privacy in microtargeting and gender citation diversity. She advises doctoral candidates and collaborates on grants from DFG and BMBF.
