Sabine Severiens

Sabine Severiens is a Full Professor of Educational Sciences at the Department of Psychology, Education and Child Studies, Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her work focuses on diversity, educational inequality, and capacity building in urban educational contexts.

Her research interests include culturally responsive teaching, student motivation, integration, and learning environments. She investigates how diverse student backgrounds affect educational outcomes and how professional development can strengthen teaching in multicultural classrooms.

Recent publications show a strong focus on sense of belonging, academic self-efficacy, and equity in higher education admissions. Her methodological approach combines quantitative analysis (e.g., regression, mediation) with qualitative and mixed-methods research.

She has directed the EU-funded NAOS project on professional capacity in urban education and currently leads the Knowledge Network on Rotterdam Talent, fostering collaboration between academic institutions, the municipality, and educational organizations.
