Sabine Panzram is a Professor of Ancient History at Universität Hamburg. She holds a habilitation from Hamburg (2013) and a PhD from University of Münster (2001), with academic training in Freiburg and Barcelona. Her research focuses on the social history of power in the Western Mediterranean, particularly urban studies of the Iberian Peninsula during Late Antiquity (4th–8th centuries), combining historical anthropology and cultural history of politics approaches.
She leads major interdisciplinary projects including:
- Toletum (DFG-funded) - Network for early-career researchers on Iberian Peninsula studies
- RomanIslam Center (DFG) - Comparative empire and transcultural studies since 2020
- Atlas project (ANR-DFG) - German-French research on urban systems in southern Spain and North Africa (3rd–8th centuries) since 2021
Her methodological interests include Digital Humanities and classical reception studies. She has received prestigious fellowships from Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Casa de Velázquez (Académie de France à Madrid).
Scientific honors include:
- Marie Curie Senior Fellowship at Casa de Velázquez
- Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute
