Sabine Otto is an Assistant Professor and Affiliated Visiting Researcher at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University. She leads the VR financed project "The Civilian Dimension of Peacekeeping Operations and Human Rights Promotion" (2019-2022).
Her educational background includes a PhD from the Graduate School of Decision Sciences at the University of Konstanz (2016), where she was also affiliated with the "Communication, Networks and Contention" Research Group. Prior to that, she was a visiting scholar at the Centre for the Study of Civil War, Peace Research Institute Oslo.
Sabine's research focuses on armed actors in civil wars and their influence on conflict trajectories. Additionally, she investigates challenges in data collection and publication bias within conflict research. Her current project explores the civilian aspects of peacekeeping operations and their role in promoting human rights.
Analysis of her publications from 2013 to 2024 reveals a strong emphasis on developing datasets (such as MMAD and GAARD) for studying repressive actors and government-armed group relations. Her work spans theoretical and practical dimensions of peacekeeping, armed group behavior, and methodological innovations in conflict data collection.
Sabine leads a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) from 2019 to 2022. While no formal advisees are mentioned, her collaborative work includes multiple co-authored publications.
During her doctoral studies, she was part of the "Communication, Networks and Contention" Research Group at the University of Konstanz. Currently, her research is conducted within the context of her project at Uppsala University.
