Sabine Blum

Sabine Blum is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, University of Lausanne (UNIL), and Head Physician at the Central Hematology Department and Laboratory, CHUV. She specializes in hematology and internal medicine, with a clinical and research focus on myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukemias, and myeloproliferative disorders.

Her research interests include clinical and translational hematology, epidemiology of blood cancers, and the development of innovative treatment strategies for high-risk leukemias. She is actively involved in national and international research collaborations, including with the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK), EPFL, and the German-Austrian-Swiss (DACH) working group on myelodysplastic syndromes.

Her recent publications reflect a strong focus on prognostic models, fertility preservation in leukemia patients, immunotherapy, and treatment optimization for elderly and high-risk patients. These works span disciplines in oncology, hematology, clinical research, and genetics, with subfields ranging from risk stratification to novel therapeutics.

She has received the Pro-Women Scholarship (2021) from the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at UNIL. She is also a member of the European Hematology Association (EHA) Guidelines Committee and its working group on acute myeloid leukemia.

Sabine Blum has been progressively advancing her career at CHUV since 2006, where she held roles as assistant physician, head of clinic, and associate physician before her promotion to professor and head physician in 2024. She collaborates with Professor Olaia Naveiras’ research team at UNIL and contributes to multiple ongoing clinical trials in leukemia and myelodysplasia.

She represents French-speaking Switzerland on the expert committee of FAMH (Association of Swiss Medical Laboratories) and holds a specialist title in analytical hematology.
