Joshua Zeidner

Joshua Zeidner, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he serves as Chief of the Leukemia Research Program within the Department of Medicine. Dr. Zeidner completed his undergraduate education at Boston University, attended medical school at New York Medical College, completed his residency at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and finished his fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.

His research program is dedicated to developing novel therapies and innovative methods to improve clinical outcomes in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). As Chief of the Leukemia Research Program, he oversees and leads the clinical and translational research efforts that offer numerous cutting-edge early phase clinical trials for patients with acute and chronic leukemias. His publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on AML treatment optimization, risk stratification, molecular markers like TP53 mutations, and novel therapeutic approaches including immunotherapy and targeted agents.

Dr. Zeidner's recent research has centered on refining risk stratification systems for AML patients, particularly in the context of venetoclax-based therapies, and investigating novel treatment combinations such as magrolimab with azacitidine for TP53-mutated AML and higher-risk MDS. His work appears in top hematology journals including Blood, Lancet Haematology, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Zeidner actively contributes to the hematology field through collaborative multi-center research efforts and has participated in developing international consensus on AML classification systems. His leadership in the Leukemia Research Program has positioned UNC as a center for innovative clinical trials in hematologic malignancies.
