Sérgio Ribeiro Pinto is an Integrated Researcher at the Centre of Religious History Studies (CEHR) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He holds a PhD in History (2013) and a Master's in History (2008) from NOVA University Lisbon, and a Theology degree (2005) from Universidade Católica Portuguesa. His academic work focuses on:
- Religious History of Portugal
- Modern Political Catholicism
- State-Church Relations
- 19th-20th Century Clergy Studies
- Digital Methodology in Historical Research
His research output spans 45 publications including books and peer-reviewed articles. Notable works address the parish clergy's role in liberal Portuguese administration, digital methodologies in historical analysis, and the 1911 Church-State separation. Recent projects include the post-doctoral study As tonsuras de Leviatã (2017-2023) and contributions to the 2023 independent report on child sexual abuse in the Portuguese Catholic Church.
He received the Prémio Victor de Sá de História Contemporânea - Menção Honrosa (2014) and has supervised works like the 2022 thesis A política como serviço ao outro. Active in academic organization, he co-organized events like the Seminário de História Religiosa Contemporânea (2021). His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals in Education and Historical Memory.
