Rüdiger Schulz

Rüdiger Schulz is a Professor and Head of the Working Group for Physiology and Biotechnology of Plant Cells at the Botanical Institute and Botanical Garden, Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, where he serves on several key academic committees and contributes to the Bachelor and Master programs in Biology and Biochemistry as a lecturer and study advisor. He is also a founding member of Kiel Marine Science (KMS) and actively involved in university governance.

His research focuses on the physiology and biotechnology of plant cells, particularly plant cell navigation. His work spans areas such as photobiology, molecular plant biology, and plant biochemistry. Through affiliations with national and international societies, he maintains a broad engagement in plant sciences, including phycology and marine botany.

Rüdiger Schulz is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the German Botanical Society (DBG), Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), Federation of the European Societies of Plant Biology (FESPB), International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), and the European Society for Photobiology (ESP). His academic service includes roles on the Biology Section Committee, Permanent Faculty Committee for Academic Affairs, and the Central Study Committee at CAU Kiel.

He advises students in biology programs and contributes to curriculum development and academic policy through his committee work. His leadership extends to the Botanical Garden, where he serves as a board member and director. He is also engaged with the Student Union Schleswig-Holstein as a member of the Administrative Board and participates in public outreach through the Friends of the New Botanical Garden.

Prof. Schulz is associated with research networks such as Kiel Marine Science and collaborates across disciplines, particularly in marine and molecular plant sciences. His group promotes interdisciplinary research in plant cell dynamics and environmental responses.
