Dr. Ryan Shin is an Associate Professor of Art and Visual Culture Education at the University of Arizona's College of Fine Arts, School of Art. He focuses on critical pedagogy addressing racial representation, minority visual culture, and global civic engagement. His work challenges anti-Asian racism and advocates for inclusive, decolonized educational practices.
Research interests include Asian American art educators' counternarratives, global narratives in art education, and the intersection of art with social justice. His articles consistently emphasize anti-racist strategies, cultural identity, and pedagogical innovation.
Dr. Shin co-edited Convergence of Contemporary Art, Visual Culture, and Global Civic Engagement and serves as president of the United States Society for Education through Art. He has held editorial roles for journals like Studies in Art Education and contributes to the Art Education Research Institute’s steering committee.
