Ryan McPherson

Ryan McPherson is an award-winning Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), part of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. He has created and delivered over 23 university communication courses across various formats since 2004 and served as a consultant, coach, and presenter for more than 10,000 participants.

His educational background includes an M.A. in Organizational Development and Instructional Communication from Texas State University (2004), a Certificate in Corporate Communication and Training (2004), and a B.A. in Communication Studies from Texas State University (2003). He has significantly contributed to educational innovation, earning 4 OER (Open Educational Resource) Teaching Awards and saving students over $200,000 annually in textbook costs.

Professor McPherson's expertise spans practical communication applications including Organizational Communication, Rhetorical Communication, Persuasion, Business Communication, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence in communication contexts. He founded Storytelling Movement LLC to help entrepreneurs, executives, and educators elevate thinking, actions, and emotions for transformative communication and sustained business growth.

He has improved over 20,000 presentations since 2004 and completed over 10,000 hours of professional development focused on higher education instruction. His professional experience is diverse, having served as a sales agent, journalist, debater, tour guide, university ambassador, orientation leader, advertising copywriter, and public relations team leader.

Professor McPherson has founded UTSA Content Creators, produced and chaired StorySLAM! at UTSA since 2012, and founded and advised three communication student organizations. He has presented at Adobe Max and Innovations in Online Learning events, with media appearances including KSAT San Antonio News discussing Chat GPT and generative AI.
