Ryan McCoy is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Washington and Lee University (W&L). He specializes in climate change impacts on agricultural systems and climate service development. His current research, funded by a $75,000 USDA grant, evaluates the effectiveness of the USDA Midwest Climate Hub’s services in bolstering climate resilience within the $76 billion Midwest agricultural industry. McCoy collaborates with Iowa State University and mentors undergraduate researchers like Tetiana Kozachanska ’26, aiming to expand the study into a national framework for USDA Climate Hub assessments.
Education: Ph.D. in Philosophy (University of Kentucky), M.A. in Philosophy (Georgia State University), B.A. in Philosophy (Belmont University). He joined W&L in Fall 2024 after prior collaboration with the Midwest Climate Hub.
Research Focus: Climate adaptation strategies, agricultural stakeholder decision-making, and climate service efficacy. His work emphasizes translating climate data into actionable tools for farmers and policymakers to enhance food security and reduce climate vulnerability.
