Ryan M. Prendergast

Dr. Ryan M. Prendergast serves as Assistant Teaching Professor of Musicology and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, teaching courses in music history, opera history, dramaturgy, and musical theater history.

He earned his doctorate in theatre from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with the dissertation "The Theatrical Collaborators of Richard Strauss: Networks, Materials, and Cultural Politics."

His research centers on opera production history, musical theater, and German theater, fusing musicology with theatre studies to examine cultural politics and collaborative networks. This interdisciplinary work has been presented at conferences including the American Musicological Society and International Richard Strauss Society.

Dr. Prendergast's scholarship appears in the Richard Strauss-Jahrbuch, The Wagner Journal, and Cambridge University Press volumes. As Director of Undergraduate Studies, he oversees academic advising and program development for music students at Carnegie Mellon.
