Dr Ryan Hoy is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician and Senior Research Fellow at the Monash Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health, Monash University. He is also a Visiting Medical Officer at The Alfred Hospital's Department of Allergy, Clinical Immunology, and Respiratory Medicine. His research focuses on occupational and environmental causes of respiratory diseases, particularly silicosis and exposure risks in high-risk industries like artificial stone manufacturing. Hoy leads and collaborates on projects addressing early silicosis detection, anti-fibrotic drug screening, and radiological biomarkers using AI. He has contributed to over 70 publications and received the 2014 Kammer Merit in Authorship Award.
His research spans occupational safety improvements, wildfire smoke health impacts, and electronic data systems for worker surveillance. Projects include SilicosisCare, which optimizes healthcare for affected individuals, and studies on North-Eastern Link Construction worker health. Hoy’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and environmental protection.
