Ryan Hili is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at York University, holding a York Research Chair (Tier 2). He leads the Hili Group, which focuses on chemical biology, combinatorial chemistry, and organic chemistry at the interface of chemistry and biology. His research integrates synthetic organic chemistry with molecular biology to develop DNA-encoded library technologies for drug discovery, small-molecule catalysts, and biomarker profiling. The group is affiliated with the Centre for Research on Biomolecular Interactions (CRBI).
Research interests include molecular evolution, DNA-encoded libraries, and epitranscriptomics. The Hili Group employs enzymatic methods and high-throughput DNA sequencing to screen millions of molecules for functional properties, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. Recent work addresses N2-methylation in RNA and ligase-catalyzed polymerization techniques for aptamer evolution.
- Awards: York Research Chair (Tier 2)
- Labs: Hili Lab, CRBI
- Key Technologies: LOOPER (ligase-catalyzed oligonucleotide polymerization), PhOxi-seq
Advising and grants focus on training interdisciplinary researchers. Ongoing projects explore synthetic nucleic acid polymers, RNA modifications, and enzyme-free translation systems.
