Ryan Hernandez

Dr. Ryan Hernandez is a Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), affiliated with the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences. He co-leads the Torgerson-Hernandez Lab (THeLab) and serves as Co-Director of multiple training programs including the Biological and Medical Informatics Graduate Program (BMI), Genentech-UCSF School of Pharmacy Fellowship Program, and UCSF PREP.

His research focuses on human genetic variation using whole-genome sequencing to study disease susceptibility and drug response. Key areas include computational biology, population genetics, and systems pharmacology. Recent publications emphasize admixed populations, metabolomic biomarkers, and genetic simulation tools.

Scientific awards include the Sloan Research Fellowship (2013-2016) and Basic Science Award in HIV/AIDS (2014-2015). He also received Outstanding Teaching Assistant recognition from Cornell in 2007.
