Ryan Hays

Ryan Hays, M.D., is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW), serving as Section Chief for Epilepsy and Medical Director for Sleep Medicine at Parkland Hospital. He holds certifications in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy, and Sleep Medicine from the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. His clinical and research focus centers on epilepsy and sleep disorders, including epilepsy surgery, autoimmune mechanisms, SUDEP, and patient quality of life.

Dr. Hays earned his M.D. from Texas A&M College of Medicine and an M.B.A. in Healthcare Leadership from the Naveen Jindal School of Management (UT Dallas). He has held leadership roles, including President of the Texas Society of Sleep Professionals and Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society. He is a former Program Director for Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy Fellowships at UTSW, and founded the Advanced Electroencephalography Fellowship Program.

His research spans epilepsy surgery outcomes, autoimmune epilepsy, and healthcare quality improvement. He has authored/co-authored over 29 publications, with recent work emphasizing genetic epilepsies, seizure detection technologies, and surgical decision-making. Awards include teaching accolades for neurology education.
