Ryan Hamilton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), part of the Faculty of Arts. He serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and is an applied sport psychologist with dual research focuses: psychology in sport/exercise performance and hope/coping mechanisms in cancer survivors. His work bridges academia and practice, including collaborations with UNB Reds athletics, Hockey Canada, and an NHL franchise.
Hamilton holds a PhD in Experimental and Applied Psychology, an MSES in Sport and Exercise Science, and a BA (Honours) in Psychology. His teaching emphasizes high-performance psychology and statistical methods, instructing courses like PSYC 3073 (Psychology of High Performance) and PSYC 6003 (Multivariate Statistics).
Key research projects involve funded studies on anxiety/depression interventions in students, breast cancer survivorship programs, and lymphedema patient narratives. He has been recognized with awards including the Harrison McCain Foundation Young Scholars Award (2016) and the Faculty of Arts Teaching Award (2010-2011).
His applied work extends to Olympic and professional sports (e.g., Olympian 2022, Stanley Cup Champion 2020/2021), combining academic rigor with real-world impact in athlete development and health resilience.
