Ryan Hamilton is an Associate Professor of Antimicrobials at De Montfort University, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, based in the Leicester School of Pharmacy. He is also a Consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacist at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and chairs the Northamptonshire Antimicrobial Medicines Optimisation Group. His work bridges academic research and clinical practice in antimicrobial stewardship, drug delivery, and public engagement.

Dr Hamilton's research focuses on understanding patient experiences with antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial prescribing behaviors, and the development of novel antimicrobial formulations for complex infections such as bone and joint infections. His work integrates qualitative and lab-based methodologies, with strong emphasis on real-world impact and public health education. He leads the Infectious Diseases Research Group and is a member of the Pharmacy Practice Research Group at DMU.
His recent publications highlight national and international collaborations, focusing on antimicrobial stewardship education, high-dose antibiotic regimens, and public engagement strategies. These works reflect a consistent trend toward improving antibiotic use through education, policy alignment, and behavioral interventions.

Dr Hamilton has secured externally funded grants from Antibiotic Research UK and internal funding via HEIF. He supervises student research projects and leads initiatives such as the ‘Germ’s Journey’ teacher training program. He serves on editorial boards for Clinical Infection in Practice and the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, and is the research lead for the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association's Pharmacy Infection Network.
He is actively involved in national outreach, public engagement, and policy development, contributing to committees of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Public Health England, and Antibiotic Research UK.
