Ryan Debolski is a Professor of Photography at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA, since Winter 2022. He is based in Detroit, MI, and maintains a professional practice as a visual artist and photographer, specializing in architectural, studio, portrait, artwork documentation, and editorial photography. His clients include prominent outlets like The New York Times, M Le Monde, Monocle, and The Globe and Mail.
Debolski holds an M.F.A. in Photography from Cranbrook University and a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of Michigan. His career spans roles such as Department Assistant at Cranbrook Academy of Art (2017–2020), where he managed a digital photography lab and instructed graduate students, and Studio Manager for contemporary artist Liz Cohen (2015–2017), overseeing exhibitions and photo documentation. He also served as Associate Editor at Strand Quarterly (2012–2015) and Project Manager for the Laszio Moholy-Nagy Archive Project in Germany (2014).
His research and artistic interests focus on architectural and studio photography, with an emphasis on documentation techniques and editorial visual storytelling. Debolski’s work has been featured in exhibitions such as With Eyes Opened at the Cranbrook Art Museum (2021) and the Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation Photobook Awards Exhibition (2020–2021). He has also been recognized through awards including the Palm Photo Prize Shortlist and the Fulbright Fellowship.
