Ryan Angus, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Management Department at West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics, where he has served since 2018. He also directs the university’s Vantage Ventures program and holds the title of James Coffman Fellow in Entrepreneurial Studies.

Dr. Angus leverages natural language processing and advanced quantitative techniques to examine how entrepreneurs optimally position new products at market entry, learn from setbacks, enroll critical human capital, and design efficient governance structures under conditions of uncertainty. His work bridges strategic management, behavioral economics, and computational linguistics.
Key themes include optimal distinctiveness in digital platforms, stakeholder enrollment under Knightian uncertainty, and the role of social networks in accessing heterogeneous human capital resources.

Before academia, Dr. Angus accumulated more than ten years of industry experience with a Fortune 500 medical-device manufacturer, a regional economic-development agency, and as a medical-device entrepreneur—experience that informs both his research and his leadership of Vantage Ventures.
