Dr Ruth Wareham is a Lecturer in Philosophy of Education at the University of Birmingham's School of Education, joining in September 2021. She concurrently serves as an Education Policy Researcher at Humanists UK, where she previously held the role of Education Campaigns Manager. Her research focuses on the intersection of religion and education, informed by her postdoctoral work on the Faith Schooling: Principles and Policy project at the University of Warwick.
Before academia, Wareham was a primary school teacher in Birmingham and the West Midlands for six years. She contributes to academic governance as an Editorial Board member for the IMPACT pamphlet series and a member of the Executive Committee of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain. She is also a trustee of The Inclusive Education Trust (Accord).
Her key publication, How to Regulate Faith Schools (2018), co-authored with Matthew Clayton, Andrew Mason, and Adam Swift, addresses policy frameworks for faith-based education. Her work bridges theoretical philosophy of education with practical policy analysis, emphasizing secularism and inclusive educational practices.
