Dr. Ruth Shillair is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Media + Information Master's Program at Michigan State University's Department of Media & Information. She holds affiliations with the Quello Center and Oxford University’s Global Cybersecurity Capacity Centre. Her research focuses on maximizing technology benefits while minimizing harm, including cybersecurity strategies, digital literacy, and policies to reduce the digital divide. She teaches courses like MI 452 (Media Entrepreneurship), MI 304 (Information & Society), and MI 472 (Digital Business), emphasizing technology's societal and business impacts. She mentors graduate students and collaborates internationally with scholars in China, Taiwan, and the UK.
Her educational background includes undergraduate studies in computer information systems management, management, and website design. She has secured research funding from NSF, DHS, NIH, and the UK Foreign Office.
