Ruth Sellers is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Education, serving as Deputy Director of the Andrew & Virginia Rudd Research and Professional Practice Centre. She holds a PhD in Psychology (Cardiff University, 2013) and a BA in Psychology (Cardiff University, 2006). Her research focuses on developmental psychopathology, intergenerational transmission of mental health issues, gene-environment interactions, and the link between physical and mental health in youth.
- Research Projects: Leads the Siblings Analysis and Fathers Taskforces with University of Oregon, advises the e-Nurture Network, and collaborates with international institutions like the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and the University of Otago.
- Teaching: Lectures and supervises postgraduate (MPhil/MEd) and undergraduate students in Psychology & Education, including dissertation supervision for the Education and Psychological & Behavioural Sciences Triposes.
Her work employs longitudinal cohort studies and genetically informed designs to identify causal mechanisms in child development and mental health. Notable contributions include analyzing maternal smoking’s effects on child outcomes and trends in adolescent mental health across UK cohorts.
Awards: Recipient of the ESRC Future Research Leader Fellowship (2016–2019). Her research has been cited in policy briefs addressing family relationships, poverty impacts, and interparental conflict interventions.
