معرفی
Ruth María Abril Stoffels serves as Full Professor in the Department of Legal Sciences at Cardenal Herrera CEU University, Valencia. She concurrently holds position as Independent Expert at the European Union's Research Executive Agency (2015-present), maintains researcher status at the Red Cross Centre for International Humanitarian Law (CEDIH) since 1998, and served as Academic Visitor at Oxford University's Faculty of Law in 2015. Her institutional roles extend to NATO gender advisory in military exercises HIREX 2013 and JAGUAR-1914, and teaching engagements across public administration, military institutions, and NGOs.
Her research program centers on International Humanitarian Law with specialized focus on gender and children's protections in armed conflicts. Key projects include the European Commission-funded FP7-SSH-2007-1 initiative on Armed Conflicts and Transitional Justice (resulting in EU Mission Codes of Conduct), national studies on child best interests through CEDAW jurisprudence, and gender violence analysis in women's political participation. She investigates systemic failures in peacekeeping operations regarding women and girls, particularly in post-conflict justice mechanisms and work-life balance policies.
Publication analysis reveals consistent evolution from foundational gender equality concepts (2002) toward applied jurisprudence on multiple discrimination in European courts (2013). Her scholarly output demonstrates increasing specialization in intersectional discrimination frameworks within international legal systems, with growing emphasis on practical implementation in military and transitional justice contexts.
She received research awards for two Generalitat Valenciana-funded publications on maternity protection and work-life balance policies, developed during her advisory role for the Valencian Regional Government's Conciliation Plan (2010-2012).
Professor Abril Stoffels directs doctoral research including EU work-life balance jurisprudence analysis, and leads principal investigator roles in the NAAG research group on girls associated with armed groups. Her funded projects span European Commission grants (FP7-SSH-2007-1), national Spanish initiatives on vulnerable populations in war zones, and Generalitat Valenciana gender studies, with documented impact on EU mission protocols and regional policy frameworks.
