Ruth Jolie serves as Associate Professor of Anthropology and Associate Curator of Education at the Arizona State Museum, University of Arizona. Her research bridges museum studies, urban anthropology, and public anthropology with particular focus on gender and kinship relations.
Jolie investigates how material culture—especially ethnographic and archaeological textiles—contributes to the construction and reinforcement of gender roles. Her work examines social capital formation in non-state societies through textile traditions, and develops applied approaches to museum-community collaborations with Indigenous artists.
Publications demonstrate sustained engagement with material culture analysis, museum interpretation, and applied anthropology. Research methodologies combine ethnographic fieldwork with collections-based research and community partnerships.
Recent pedagogical initiatives focus on Title IX-related research and developing anthropological approaches to institutional childcare solutions. She maintains an active role in museum education and public engagement through the Arizona State Museum.
