Ruth Heidelberger

Ruth Heidelberger, MD, PhD, is a Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston's McGovern Medical School and holds the Frederic B. Asche Chair in Ophthalmology. Her research focuses on presynaptic plasticity and synaptic communication in retinal neurons, aiming to identify therapeutic targets for synaptopathic disorders. She earned her undergraduate, graduate, and medical degrees at Stony Brook University, trained under Nobel laureates Paul C. Lauterbur and Erwin Neher, and joined the faculty in 1996.
