Ruth Grady is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics at The University of Manchester. She holds a BA in Natural Sciences (Pathology) from the University of Cambridge (1987–1990), a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Manchester (1994–1998), and has held roles including Clinical Scientist at the Central Public Health Laboratory (1998–1999) and postdoc at UMIST (1999–2002).
Her research interests span microbiology, focusing on bacterial biofilms, immune evasion mechanisms, and plasmid segregation systems. She also contributes to medical and science education, specializing in microbiology laboratory practicals for dentists, medics, and biological sciences students. Her teaching innovations include problem-based learning and group-work activities for dental students.
Ruth’s publications emphasize educational methodologies and microbial genetics. She has led final-year student research projects and explored assessment strategies using computer-assisted and peer evaluation. Her work aligns with UN SDGs addressing health and well-being (SDG 3) through contributions to infectious disease research and medical education.
