Ruth E. Riter serves as Professor of Chemistry at Agnes Scott College, maintaining an active faculty role with her office located in Bullock Science Center 302W where she contributes to departmental teaching and scholarship initiatives.

- MS from Tennessee Technological University
- PhD in Physical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University
Dr. Riter specializes in chemistry education research with emphasis on active learning pedagogies. She implements Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL), a methodology where student teams engage in structured activities aligned with the cognitive learning cycle to develop conceptual mastery and critical process skills including problem solving and analytical reasoning.
Her recent scholarly contributions focus on developing POGIL learning materials specifically for instrumental analytical chemistry courses and creating supplemental educational resources for the Agnes Scott College Resource Center for Math and Science. This work demonstrates her commitment to advancing science education through innovative curriculum design that strengthens student comprehension and practical skill development in laboratory contexts.
