Ruth Colker is a Distinguished University Professor and Heck Faust Memorial Chair in Constitutional Law at The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law. She holds a B.A. in Social Studies (cum laude) and J.D. from Harvard University. A leading scholar in constitutional law and disability discrimination, her work includes over 90 law review articles and 12 books, with two Supreme Court citations. She previously served as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, earning awards for performance.
Her research focuses on disability rights, LGBTQ+ issues, and feminist legal theory. Colker’s classroom innovations include student-led accessibility studies impacting Ohio State’s policies. She has received prestigious awards, including the Distinguished University Professor title (Ohio State’s highest honor), and serves on the ACLU’s national board. Beyond academia, she is an avid runner along the Scioto River.
Recent publications explore topics like affirmative action hypocrisy, religious domination in law, and disability law critiques. Her advocacy extends to universal design in education and combating systemic barriers faced by marginalized groups.
