Ruth Carmichael

Ruth Carmichael is a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, affiliated with the Biosciences department. She is a BBSRC Discovery Fellow hosted in the lab of Prof. Michael Schrader, focusing on peroxisome-mitochondria interactions in neuronal health and disease.

Her research explores organelle interplay via membrane contact sites, dynamics of peroxisomes and mitochondria, and their roles in neurodegeneration. Utilizing molecular, biochemical, imaging, and biophysical techniques, she investigates these processes in both health and disease contexts. Key interests include:

• Intracellular trafficking and post-translational modifications

Ruth is affiliated with broader disciplines including Biochemistry and cell biology, Neurosciences, and Biomedical sciences.

She has received the BBSRC Discovery Fellow award and welcomes inquiries from funded postgraduate researchers interested in MSc by Research projects in organelle biology or molecular neuroscience.
