Ruth Brown is an Assistant Professor and Director of Elementary Language Instruction in Hispanic Studies at the University of Kentucky. She develops inclusive pedagogies and community-engaged curricula for Spanish courses, including Hispanic Kentucky service-learning initiatives.
Education:
- PhD in Hispanic Studies from University of Kentucky
- MA in Spanish from University of Kentucky
- BA in Spanish from Berea College
Research Focus: Documents histories of Kentucky's Hispanic/Latino communities through the Kentucky Hispanic Heritage Project and analyzes creative narratives about migration in Mexico/Central America. Additional interests encompass Latinx studies, language pedagogy, and instructional technology.
Community Engagement: Extensive fieldwork includes social services, health education, and interpretation for Lexington's Hispanic community, along with directing Georgetown College's Spanish Immersion Program.
