Ruth Amos is a Lecturer and tutor in science education at the UCL Institute of Education (IOE), part of the Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment. Her roles include training PGCE science student teachers, supporting MA and doctoral students, and managing research projects. Notable projects include an EEF/Wellcome-funded initiative pairing UCL STEM undergraduates with disadvantaged Year 11 students, and a BIEA-funded collaboration with Ethiopia on citizenship science pedagogies. Previously, she taught chemistry and was head of science in London secondary schools (1990–2004) and worked as an environmental chemistry researcher at ICI Plant Protection Division (now Syngenta).

Her research focuses on learning outside the classroom, digitally-supported education, and socio-scientific inquiry-based learning (SSIBL). She has contributed to projects like PARRISE and collaborates with the Development Education Research Centre (DERC). Current priorities include recruiting schools and undergraduates for the EEF trial and fostering international teacher training partnerships with Ethiopia.
Ruth emphasizes teacher well-being and student empowerment, drawing from her teaching experiences and environmental advocacy roots. She is actively involved in improving initial teacher education and advocating for STEM mentorship programs.
