Ruth Abbey is the John Cardinal O'Hara, C.S.C. Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. She specializes in political philosophy, ethics, and postmodern thought, with a focus on the works of Charles Taylor and Friedrich Nietzsche. Her research explores pluralism, liberalism, and the intersection of philosophy with gender and multiculturalism.
She has received prestigious fellowships, including a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship and a research fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Her book Charles Taylor was recognized as one of the 2002 Outstanding Academic Titles by Choice Magazine.
Her recent publications analyze topics such as Rawlsian ethics applied to animals, Nietzschean critiques of meritocracy, and the evolution of liberal theory. Awards and honors highlight her contributions to philosophical scholarship.
