Ruth A. De Anda serves as an Instructor of Social Work and BSW Program Director at West Texas A&M University within the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work, part of the Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences. She joined the institution in 2020 and brings nearly two decades of professional experience as a licensed social worker.
Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (2005) and Master of Science in Social Work (2011), both earned at West Texas A&M University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) with a specialization in Educational Leadership at the same institution.
Her professional background spans child welfare systems as an adoption and foster care case manager for a non-profit agency, medical social work at Northwest Texas Hospital, and school-based social work with Amarillo Independent School District. These experiences directly inform her research interests in social work practice, child welfare interventions, educational leadership, and school social work systems. Her current doctoral focus on Educational Leadership further shapes her scholarly direction in academic program development.
As BSW Program Director, she oversees curriculum implementation and student field placements, having previously served two years as Field Director for the program. Her teaching responsibilities include undergraduate social work courses where she integrates real-world practice experience with academic theory.
