Rutger van der Hoeven is an Assistant Professor of Cultural History in the Department of History and Art History at Utrecht University's Faculty of Humanities. He has held a permanent position at the university since 2003 and is affiliated with the Humanities Research Institute for History and Art History. In addition to his academic work, van der Hoeven serves as a staff writer at De Groene Amsterdammer, the oldest current affairs magazine in the Netherlands, where he writes the foreign affairs column and hosts the podcast "Buitenlandse Zaken." He is also a regular commentator on Dutch public radio (Radio 1).
Van der Hoeven has an impressive academic background, having been a fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) and serving as a visiting professor at both the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
