Rut Blees Luxemburg

Rut Blees Luxemburg is a researcher and artist affiliated with the School of Arts & Humanities at the Royal College of Art. Her work focuses on urban representation through large-format photography, exploring how cities are visualized and perceived. She holds degrees in Political Science (Duisburg) and Photography (University of Westminster).

Her research investigates urban aesthetics, architectural transformation, and the colonial gaze in ethnographic archives. Notable projects include London Dust (2011–13), analyzing the City of London’s architectural shifts, and Silver Forest (2016), a public art installation at Westminster City Hall. She contributed to exhibitions at Tate Liverpool, the Weltkulturen Museum, and the Museum Simeonstift Trier.

Blees Luxemburg’s publications include monographs like Commonsensual (2009) and edited volumes such as Science & Fiction (2014). Her collaborations include the Weltkulturen Museum research project and the experimental art space FILET in London. She frequently presents at conferences on photography and urban studies.
