Russell S. Sobel

Russell S. Sobel is the BB&T Distinguished Professor of Economics and Entrepreneurship at The Citadel's Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business. His research focuses on state economic policy reform, entrepreneurship, and institutional economics. Dr. Sobel has authored over 250 publications, including a best-selling Principles of Economics textbook.

His current work examines how institutions affect entrepreneurial activity and economic growth, with particular attention to policy impacts at state and local levels. Research investigates economic freedom convergence, gendered economic outcomes, and the historical foundations of institutional development. Dr. Sobel's analysis has been featured in major media outlets including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
