Russell Fazio is a Professor of Social Psychology in the Department of Psychology at The Ohio State University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds the Harold E. Burtt Chair in Psychology and has been affiliated with the university since at least 1978. His research focuses on attitude formation, change, and accessibility, as well as their connections to behavior and social cognition. His work extends to applications in emotional disorders, political psychology, and racial prejudice. Fazio has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Society of Experimental Social Psychology’s Distinguished Scientist Award (2019) and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2017).
Education: Ph.D. (1978), M.A. (1976), and B.A. (1974) in Psychology from Princeton University, Cornell University, and other institutions. His research is supported by grants such as the NIMH MERIT Award (1987) and multiple Research Scientist Development Awards.
Research Interests: Attitude dynamics, social cognition, implicit bias, political psychology, and health psychology. His Attitudes & Social Cognition Lab investigates how attitudes influence behavior through automatic and controlled processes, with recent work addressing conspiracy beliefs, procrastination, and pandemic responses.
