Russell Crook is the First Horizon Foundation Distinguished Business Professor and Cheryl Massingale Business Faculty Scholar at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee. He serves as the head of the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship. His expertise spans business strategy, corporate political activity, and strategy execution. Crook holds a Ph.D. in strategic management from Florida State University, alongside an M.B.A. in Finance and a B.S. in Economics, also from Florida State University and American University.
His research focuses on strategic management, entrepreneurship, and supply chain dynamics, with over 40 publications. Notable areas include meta-analytic studies of investment decisions, corporate responses to data breaches, and the role of knowledge as a strategic resource. He actively engages with organizational leaders to develop actionable strategies.
Crook’s career includes roles at American Airlines, US Airways, and IBM in strategic planning and procurement. His awards reflect his scholarly contributions, including the endowed professorship and faculty scholar distinction. His work emphasizes methodological rigor, particularly in meta-analysis, and addresses practical challenges in supply chain management and corporate governance.
He is affiliated with the Global Supply Chain Institute and has advised on strategic initiatives in healthcare, leadership, and executive education programs like the Physician Executive MBA.
