Dr Rupert Waldron is a Senior Lecturer at the LCF School of Media and Communication, University of the Arts London. His research focuses on cultural industries in transnational contexts, particularly the intersection of UK Art and Design Higher Education with creative labor in cities like Mumbai and Shanghai. He holds a PhD from the Westminster Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), examining how internationalized education can resist neoliberal exploitation. His work critiques the commodification of labor and advocates for non-exploitative creative practices.
Dr Waldron teaches courses such as the PG Proposal Unit and has developed curricula addressing globalized contexts. He serves as an editorial board member for the International Journal of Fashion Studies since 2014. His publications emphasize transformative education, intercultural collaboration, and the role of fashion media in mediating cross-cultural interactions. He frequently presents at conferences like Historical Materialism, advocating for critical approaches to internationalization and postcolonial theory.
His research combines historical materialism and political economy to challenge systemic inequities in creative industries. He emphasizes discipline-specific solutions to fostering inclusive, reflexive learning environments that transcend Eurocentric frameworks.
