Ruoran Zhao is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the School for Business and Society, University of York. She holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Edinburgh and has prior roles as a Research Fellow at Edinburgh and a Visiting Scholar at Brown University. Her research focuses on climate finance, FinTech, gender bias in financial markets, and the impact of institutions on financial development. She explores topics such as corporate biodiversity risks, epidemic disease effects on innovation, and political connections influencing environmental performance.
Her publications appear in journals like the Journal of Law and Economics and Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, with recent work analyzing terrorism's leverage on democratic regimes and the innovation dynamics during epidemics. She actively engages in academic conferences, including the American Finance Association and European Financial Management Association meetings.
Ruoran supervises PhD students in green finance, gender bias, and cultural influences on financial decisions. Her teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses on accounting, finance, and research methodologies.
