Rune Storli

Rune Storli is a Senior Lecturer at Queen Maud Memorial College for Early Childhood Education (DMMH), where he has worked since 2002. He teaches in the Bachelor’s program and contributes to further education and master’s courses. His research focuses on play environments in kindergartens, particularly rough-and-tumble play (R&T), outdoor learning environments, and their impact on children’s physical activity and psychosocial health.

Since 2020, he has contributed to Regional Competence Development (ReKom) with Trondheim and Malvik municipalities, and in 2023, he initiated collaboration with six kindergartens in Oslo’s Søndre Nordstrand district to improve play environments.

Dissemination includes over 20 academic lectures and articles on topics like:

• Gender differences in preschool teachers’ perceptions of R&T
• Impact of outdoor environments on children’s play behaviors
• Systematic reviews on nature play’s sustainability contributions

He has authored peer-reviewed articles, textbooks (e.g., Lag en naturlekeplass), and digital teaching aids (Digistory, webinars, podcasts). His work emphasizes balancing play safety and creative physical engagement in educational settings.
