Rui He

Rui He is a Lecturer in Education at the Manchester Institute of Education (MIE), The University of Manchester. She coordinates the MIE Postgraduate Academic Enlightenment Programme (PAE), serves as Social Responsibility Lead at MIE, and is a member of the SEED Social Responsibility Committee. She founded the Eastern Higher Education Research Network (ETHER) and contributes to the China and Higher Education Network (ChinaHE), as well as the HERE@Manchester and Education and Psychology research groups. Her research focuses on international students’ acculturation, mental health, and social connections, particularly through service learning and global citizenship education.

Dr. He teaches on the MA International Education programme, including units like Engaging with Educational Research and Intercultural Engagement at Work, which incorporates student work placements. She holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing quality education and reduced inequalities.

Recent projects include the Connect&Contribute initiative promoting student socio-cultural engagement and the BeePart project exploring international students’ work placements. She has supervised PhD candidates researching topics such as international students’ multicultural group work experiences and global citizenship education in China.

Dr. He’s awards include a Commended Award in the Making a Difference Awards for Social Responsibility (2025) and a nomination for the BERA SIG Best Presentation Award (2023). Her research outputs span international education, cross-cultural psychology, and innovative teaching methods.
