Rui C. Silva is a Professor of Finance and holds the Haddad Chair in Entrepreneurship at Nova School of Business and Economics. He is also a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and serves as a Visitor (Associate Professor of Finance) at University College London (UCL). His research focuses on corporate finance, labor economics, innovation, and institutional impacts on financial markets.
Key research themes include mergers and mental health, bankruptcy law dynamics, institutional effects on innovation, and gender disparities in labor market exposures. Silva has published in top-tier journals such as Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science. His work often bridges theoretical frameworks with real-world policy implications, such as the influence of credit rating agencies on elections and the labor costs of financial distress in firms.
His current projects explore the value of trademarks, resource misallocation in firms, and physiological/spiritual factors in economic decisions.
